![]() ![]() MOO4, who have millions of $ at their disposal and a large development staff. And the fact that he's been successful in doing more with less is evident when you compare what he's accomplished vs. He's ambitiously bitten off a huge bite with the 4x genre as a single developer. He's been all over bugs as they've been reported these past few days and has given every indication he intends to continue supporting SD2 in the days to come with further patches, and improvements. The fact is he's been very supportive and doing more than any single person should be expected to do in making the DLC launch as successful as he could. It's so easy for people to troll when they've formed an opinion, leave and then come back and steam all over the forums. He's admitted mistakes in how he dealt with Stardrive 1. I don't know about the previous history, but he's been nothing but active in working on improving and troubleshooting Stardrive 2 over the past year. There are certainly other games coming out that seem to have promise, but this particular game type (MOO-clone with slight twist) has been standing still for WAY too long (tech tree, I am looking at you and thinking I have seen you before somewhere).Įxcuse me? That's not a fair characterization. The MOO remake from Wargaming seems to have fallen flat on its face, so here is hoping that StarDrive 2 gets the support and polish it deserves. StarDrive2 is better than most new contenders in the genre, and that is both a recommendation and a bit of a stab at the very low bar set by space strategy games. It's screaming to be filled with a new or at least refreshed tech tree/system, a better design screen where more information is available so you can more easily gauge the effect of your designs, more interesting random events and so on and so forth. Honestly, this game could use a bigger team with a bigger budget. This makes it feel derivative at first glance, but it is shaping up far more interesting that pre-expansion. Several individual parts of the game still take a lot from the original (MOO2), having been more or less directly copied. The constant zoomin'zoomout is simply aggravating. ![]() It still feel a bit unfinished, particularly the UI still struggles to let me focus on the game, rather than the clicky-clicky. I have a number of major and minor annoyances with StarDrive 2 (I still think the core concept for StarDrive the original was stronger, being real-time and less old-fashioned 4x constricted), yet I think it is probably the closest game at the moment to really capture the feel of MOO2.
